Reflection 7 – VJ Culture
VJing, as described in many contexts, embodies the fusion of live performance, art, and technology. It’s an expressive art form where the VJ mixes and manipulates visual elements in real-time, adding an extra layer to a musical or performance event. The concept of “visual wallpaper” refers to the background visual elements that accompany the main performance or event, aiming to enhance the audience’s experience without demanding explicit attention. In a concert, club, or theater setting, I’ve experienced VJs using a diverse array of visuals – for example when i’m in club, they will create a lot of different pattern and image to match with the music, sometimes it even feels like watching a move, and in broadway musical, they also have visual wallpaper to create background for the show, there are also part that the background is changing with the music.
If you’ve experienced VJ performances, you might have observed the seamless integration of live visuals, the interactive and dynamic nature of the performance, and the influence of these visuals on the overall atmosphere and engagement of the audience. it really help the audiences to further engage in the whole show.
