Project 2 – Documentation Post
Atlantia
Project Description
our project is about the lost kingdom under the sea–atlantia. it talks about from nothing to the rise of the nation, to prosperity, and finally to its demise. and for me, something deep is that I feel like the project shows the philosophy of natural change. everything is from nothing to prosperity and to peace and nothing again.
We first wanted to make a project about the end of the world, and then we found that our material’s effects were stunning, and didn’t give us the feeling of the end of the world. and is good to make a sea world, so we change it into a lost kingdom under the sea.
Perspective and Context
I feel like what is important about visual music and the abstract film is that the music and vision must be integrated, it already engages the audience’s multiple senses and lets them have an immersive experience. and after adding performance, audiences will have a more immersive experience.
Development & Technical Implementation
for me, I mainly take charge of the performance and lighting part. first, we tried several lights, the light we borrowed in the er and the flashlight. we found that the light we borrowed was too strong, so we decided to use the flashlight. and then we found a big problem is that we used the flashlight to make the reflection of our material, it is easy to have a big light spot on the screen, so we tried different techniques, and then we found that letting the light shine down on the material is the best solution for the light spot, also make the light face on myself the effect will be better.
and we have a list of when and how should the visual and sound change, so even though the sound and visual are not connected in max, they still interact with each other.
Performance
I feel like during the performance, I felt very excited, because the person who controls the light, can feel like what I was doing was very important to the effects, and also I was part of the performance, the audience they are watching me, which made some amazing and I felt it is really cool. I think what went well is that we are all working as a group, very united. and what is unexpected is that in the first time performance, our camera didn’t connect with the max, so the last half of our project is not working.
Team Work
I am responsible for the lighting and the changing of the material, mainly the performance part. maggie and Sophia focus on the audio part, and Chanel focuses on performance and the visual effects in max. we first brainstormed about what content we were gonna do, and then we divided into two groups, visual and audio. and then we just work in groups, after we make something, we will get together and communicate about what we are gonna do for the next step.
I feel like the benefit is that, we have enough people to do different tiny little work, the drawback is that I feel like making effects on max is more like individual work, it is hard to make by two people when it comes to making something in max, they can only discuss together.
Conclusion
In one to two paragraphs write a reflection on the research, creation, and execution of your performance. In a general sense, describe issues related to the project such as: What did you learn? What did you discover? What did you fail at? What did you succeed at? What can you improve? What would you want to do in the future? Be critical!
The conclusion should wrap up your final thoughts on the project in a coherent and concise statement.
