Sound visaulization
A:
Song: A Day In The Life by The Beatles
B:
That song has four parts. Each part has different features and emotions, some have vocal parts with soft instruments and some are pure instruments that are strong and crazy, some parts combine the sound of people talking and people singing. So I decided to divide my poster into four parts and add different elements in each part to show the feeling of each part. At the beginning of the music, the melody and the singing were soft, and I heard the sound of maraca, so I used those irregular circles to describe it. And then they add a drum set and guitar into the song, so I add the stretch s and the stretch o. After that the music gets crazy, and the sound of the instruments gets stronger and faster, it sounds like a vortex to me, so I create the two circles with characters around them. And then the cheerful jumping beat and piano voice, give me a sense of a bunch of people dancing like a circle, that’s another reason I create those circles with characters around them. When it comes to one man singing like a whooping, add those “m” “n” “v” “i” and “w”. In the end, I use all of those rectangles to describe the messy people sounds singing and talking together.
I used closure in my poster, there are characters composed together, giving a sense of space. And I use white as the ground and black as the figure, I think the black figure can give the picture a jumping feeling. And I also use proximity, to put those elements that I want people to see as a unit together, making the four parts of the picture look clear. I think the black square project teaches me how to organize complex elements in an organized way.
C:
I first decided to give a lot of architecture to my project, but then the mid-critique, people say I add too much architecture that make my project less related to the song, my picture is too separate between each part, but the song doesn’t have that kind of feeling.
So I decide to delete the strong architecture and save some of them by using the closure method, organizing the elements to build the shape. I also add some blur and fade tools to show the feeling of the song. I didn’t do any huge changes because I want to keep the elements I choose to describe the song. I think what I did works, but I still didn’t show the whole feeling of the song, the four-part is still too separate and don’t have a strong connection.

D:
If I have more time, I will try some other ways to organize those elements and those four parts, to make a more strong connection between each part. And to better show the whole feeling of the song. Also, I may go and learn more methods, to add more effects.
