2022/10/14 Group Research Project: Make, Perform & Report
The idea:
In the beginning, we select three ideas that fulfill the assigned criteria. They are:
- baby monitor
- the glasses that show the way the object is assembled and the advantage and disadvantage
- crime detect glasses
Explanation:
Firstly, we all think that the two glasses are worth choosing, and then we start to think about how to combine these two glasses. The first glasses have a camera to catch the image, and the camera also connects to the computer that can recognize some behavior. Also, we think the second glasses are more useful and creative. So we combine the technology of the first glasses and the purpose of the second glasses.
We choose these glasses as our invention because it is useful and can stop a lot of crime. It can bring more justice to society and save a lot of people’s life. The idea is from the first fiction that if the psychologist has glasses, he can detect that the kids killed their parents. and he’ll avoid being killed.
My opinion:
I think our artifact is successful because it is very easy to understand, and convenient to take, also it is kind of cool when you wear it. As to its failure, I think it is too simple, and we need to change the glasses when we are performing.
Working process:
I come up with the idea of glasses that can see the multiple sides of an objective, I Also mention that to put a camera on the glasses to record and detect things. My ideas help a lot when we decide what to do. Besides, I discussed with my teammate and decided which shape of glasses we are gonna use, and I made all of these glasses by using a paper box. Our team was very united. In the beginning, we just share our own ideas and discuss which one is better. And then we discussed how to combine two ideas together and also to make our project more clear and specific. Also, we write the script together. After that, we started to make our glasses, we have different parts to do. Someone made the props for the performance, someone made the glasses and someone decorated the glasses. We cooperate very well with each other, everyone is in their place. And then we start to rehearse, everyone has their own role. We discussed the script after that, to decide what should be added to our performance and how to extend our duration. Our rehearsal was quite smooth, and every time when we discuss something, we will listen to other people attentively and found a solution that everyone agrees.

The assessment of another group:
I want to choose the perfume-making machine group. They made a perfume-making machine to make perfume whenever you want, you just need to type some core words into the machine, and it will make it for you automatically. Their idea from the first story is that children can make a virtual world by using their consciousness. So they come up with this machine, which can make you feel like you are in some other place. I think it doesn't have direct relevance to that fiction, it has some indirect relevance to that article. I think it doesn't meet the criteria of the assignment because I don't think it is unique and imaginative, it doesn't exist (or it already existed, just so applied so wildly) because it was hard to let the machine work, and kind of useless, not because it is creative. As to my opinion of this device, I think its purpose is very sweet, they want to bring happiness to people, and help them relax. Also, I think the artifact they made is cute and easy to understand, but I still think it's useless because it's too difficult for us to define what a thing smells like. More importantly, I think I still can't understand how it works after their performance. And if we want good smells, we can just buy more perfume. They create three scenarios about the perfume maker, they use each of the scenarios to describe what smell that perfume can make and how people feel after smelt the smell. I think they should make the course of work of this device more clear and specific. And also use a more conventional standard to define the smell, instead of the core words.
