Recitation: User Testing

Step 1

In Step 1, I will share my feedback about one project that I have critiqued in user testing.

Their project is called ‘Color Phonograph’. Their idea is really fascinating, and I feel excited to draw my own color phonograph with the paint they provided. My own painting is put on the device. Then, the phonograph began to rotate and there is beautiful music coming out. The interaction is really engaging and I believe everyone wants to try painting and create their own music.

I give some suggestions for them. First, they shall make their installation more visually beautiful so that it is more delicate and attractive. Second, the color sensor can only detect a circle with constant radius instead of the whole circle painting but the user didn’t get this idea, so it would be better if there is an area on the paper. Also, the device is easy to go wrong so it has to be more stable.

Step 2

In step 2, I would like to discuss the feedback I received.

Feedback
1. Hide the cables & Arduino & breadboard
2. Make the system more stable
3. Different boxed of the water can play different pitches
4. can be used while meditation or yogurt since I feel relaxing and stress-relieving 
5. the mechanism is easy but effective
6. it would be better if there are a large number of boxes
7. the concept should be more valid

I agree with this suggestion. To tackle this problem, I made a black cloth and cut it to look likes black waves, which fits my concept. If the light is dark, the cloth blends into the dark environment and the visual effect is wonderful.

Make the system more stable
```

I found out that the capacitive sensor is not constantly stable while presenting. The problem will be solved if I rerun Processing. Sometimes, the value of the capacitive sensors will be ten times the previous one. And sometimes, the variation of one value will affect others surround it. I research this and I found capacitor may make the value more stable. However, it doesn’t improve the previous situation so I have to give up.

3. Different boxed of the water can play different pitches

In my mid-term project, I use different pitches as the effect of interaction. This time, I would like to make the sound effect natural because my theme is the relationship within our society and the relationship between humans and nature.

it would be better if there are a large amount of boxes

I am also looking forward to making a large number of boxes filled with water in a large room so that there is more interaction and the scene will look more magnificent.
