Communications Lab_Diptych Documentation_Walking on Time

My name is Vivian and this documentation is to document and commemorate my photo diptych work “Walking on Time”.

My initial inspiration came from the weekend before I finished my homework. I went to the high-speed railway station and took the high-speed train home. Art comes from life. I looked at the scenery of rapid retreat on the high-speed train, and I suddenly felt very emotional for a moment.  I took the high-speed train to Shanghai, and one day I will take the high-speed train to leave here, but my memories here will never be erased, we are all walking on time and shuttling in space. So I took a picture of the scene outside the moving high iron window and made it my first picture. Then I took some pictures of high-speed trains when I got off the train as the material for the second picture.

During the production process, for my first image, I just performed a simple color adjustment to make the two images the same tone. For my second image, I took a parallel composition from top to bottom. I took a high-speed train image as the main body of the work. Under the high-speed train image, I added some flowers, all of which are from the same picture. I used zoom in, zoom out, turn, color, overlap to create an effect of sea of flowers, which also represents the way we walk along the flowers. Above the image of the high-speed train, I added the image of buildings, cars, people, cats…… They are all the images we can see in our daily life. Though we may not notice them when we are in a hurry, when we are about to leave the memory, every object is shining in time. After finishing collage and composition, I did some color mixing and checking, and finally finished my project.

My experience with this work has been a lot of twists and turns, and my original work was not like that. However, after the mid-critic and presentation, I received a lot of suggestions. For example, my work looks messy in general, the main part doesn’t stand out, and there are places where I put the whole picture on instead of the image I need. So I made a revision and sorted out the structure of the work.

All in all, this is a very memorable work. I got both tears and smiles in there. Nearly a month’s learning of adobe photoshop also makes me master this technology. It was a very meaningful experience!
