Circle of Light Audio Visual Mapping

Song: Sunburn by Dominic Fike

For this week’s assignment, we were to use MadMapper to create a visual audio video for the building used in Circle of Light. I decided to use Dominic Fike’s song, Sunburn, because listening to it gave me various visions for what I could map and use for content to make the visuals align with the mood of the music. For many of the content elements, I screen recorded numerous gifs I found online of Dominic Fike, the model from his Sunburn album cover, the sun and sunset, and more visuals that captivated the mood and aura I was going for. I started out by mapping each element of the building, such as the entire thing, the top half, bottom half, pillars, windows, and the circle at the top. To make things more cohesive, I switched between mapping the entire building and then mapping all the smaller elements with different backgrounds to make it more interesting. I added scenes as I went and rearranged them to fit with the music and where the song was. For much of the content, I used the audio control system to control the speed of the video/graphic. I also played around with the colors, fx, and scale of the contents. Because I had around 30 scenes, set at various intervals, it made the video run longer than 1 minute, and reached the end of the song, so I just had the audio visual for the whole song.

Finding of the Week

For this week’s finding of the week, it was at the same location as the one I found last week, except it is a different installation. I was on the same street and at first, I thought it was the same one as last week, but when I took a closer look, I noticed that this light installation was different. This one is only using LED lights with different color lights, while the one last week had one color along with aluminum pieces. This installation is called Electrical Charge A, which was made in 2017 by Keith Sonnier. The materials used include neon, steel, transformer and electrical wire. The light look quite abstract and the 3 colors of red, yellow, and blue contrast each other to emphasize the different positions and bends they are in. The blue LED is quite overpowering as the entire room glows blue.
