Visual Music Video – Modul8

Song: Catch Me (feat. Naaz) by Yellow Claw, Flux Pavilion, Naaz

For this week’s assignment, we were to create a visual music video using Modul8. I first started by choosing a song so that I could find elements that matched with the mood of it. I decided on using Catch Me by Yellow Claw, Flux Pavilion, and Naaz, which is one of my favorite EDM songs. I went on the web looking for VJ loops and then on various websites to find free PNG elements that matched with the song and background loop. Most of the elements I found were intricate designs which I modified within Modul8 to give it movement, reaction to music beats, and more. I did choose to add one icon that is a TikTok emoji because it has a happy face, like a person’s reaction to listening to the song. All of the elements except for the shooting stars react to the overall beats of the EDM music, but they have various reactions like color change, scale, movement, rotation, and transformations. I have a total of 6 PNG elements, including the emoji, a chrome fluid hollow circle, shooting stars, hearts, snowflakes, and another snowflake design that was heavily transformed. At first, I was confused on how to use Modul8 and to layer these items, I also ran into some difficulty having the elements react to the music that was being played. To fix the audio reaction issue, I restarted Modul8 and my laptop. For the background, I got inspiration from the rave festivals and the visuals they use, so I went with a somewhat trippy loop that takes you into a mirrored corridor. I also adjusted the brightness, saturation, and RGB levels of each element to make them more cohesive together.

Although I did record the screen and its reaction to the music, when I rendered it, the sound was not picked up because I was playing it externally instead of adding the audio inside the project. Due to this, I ended up screen recording the video instead of having it as a rendered file. I really liked how this project turned out, and my favorite part is the little emoji!
