Innovation Lab: Challenge 1 Part 5
(I forgot to track the progress of my prototype in Fusion)
As I started making my prototype on Fusion, I changed my design a lot from my original to make it simpler and used less materials. I first started by making the rectangular prism stand to support the phone stand base, and used a cylinder to connect it to the back of the phone stand base. I got rid of the plate underneath the rectangular prism because it was not necessary. For the phone base, I made a simple large box body, and then created a smaller body precisely the size of a phone with a little extra space, and then combined those two but cut the smaller box out of the larger box. For the placement, I placed the smaller box (containing the phone) higher up on the larger box, and gave it more depth to ensure that the phone does not fall out. For greater measures of preventing the phone from falling out, I used the draft tool to make an angle of 5 degrees on the bottom side of the large box where the phone sits on.
Throughout this process, I found that fusion was a little difficult and confusing to use, so it took some trial and error to get the result I wanted to achieve. For future improvement and modifications as I build the rest of my prototype, I hope to make more cutouts on the box so that the phone can be charged while it’s sitting on the stand. I also need to figure out a simpler and more efficient mechanism to adjust the “straps” of the phone stand that connect to the mirrors, so that it doesn’t block any views.
