Innovation Lab: On Starck
After researching Philippe Starck, I was fascinated by the range of work he does which includes practical items, interior design, and architecture. I found that many designs he made were quite cool and useful at the same time; others were a little repetitive and not as practical.
One design I particularly liked was the Rise Delta Q with Starck, which is the Delta Q coffee machine. I drink coffee everyday and I have multiple different machines, however with my capsule machine (the most convenient one), I realized that it splashes when the coffee is dispensed and sometimes makes a mess. I found Starck’s design of utilizing an inverted gravity for the coffee to dispense bottom to top was very interesting. It also says that the flavor is also enhanced and the temperature is maintained. I would love to try out this coffee machine.
One design I did not particularly like was the Miniscool (XO) because of its limitability. While I understand the intent of the design was to make desks and chairs into one for convenience, I feel that the design is quite restrictive. For instance, I particularly like to prop my knees up on the chair while I’m working because I have knee issues and sitting in one position for a long period of time causes them to ache. However this design leaves no space for one to do that. I also think that the space under the table is not spacious enough for adjusting the position of your legs.
