A PROJECT TITLE

 Plastic fish

 

B PROJECT STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

We start this idea from the sea environment issue. Marine pollution is indeed a truly global problem. Oil spills, ship emissions, mico-plastics. All poison vast stretches of water. 10 million tonnes of litter are dumped in the sea every year. Microplastics threaten to unhinge whole ecosystems(European Commission n.p.). So our project is to design for raise people’s attention to the marine pollution and decrease it.

 

 

C. PROJECT PLAN

Our project is a two players game.The  Each player will control a fish under the sea. They can use sensor to control the movement of the fish(finish by 4.29 by Elaine). Micro plastic are bouncing every where(finish by 4.29 by Tracy). The fishes need to avoid touch the micro plastic and eat swimming shrimps. The micro plastic will start with few but double every 20s(finish by 5.6 by Tracy). By eating shrimps, they will grow bigger(finish by 5.13 by Elaine). The fish that eat more shrimps will win the game. But don’t forget the ruin of oil spills. There is a pollution layer rising slowly from the bottom of the sea. It will finally reach 7/8 of the whole screen(finish by 5.6 by Tracy). So actually, the two fishes will only to find they will stuck in a limited space. And the plastic will get more dense. So no matter how many shrimps does they eat, they will finally die for oil pollution. And if they touch the micro plastic, they will lose one HP, so they will die early. We also plan to add a sound effect when the fish eat shrimp. When player press the press sensor, the fish will eat. When it eats shrimp, there comes a eating sound. When it touched plastic, there comes a down sound. If time allowed, we want to add sea waves follow the sound waves.

 

D.CONTEXT AND SIGNIFICANCE

We wanted to create a game under the sea for kids at first. The sea just a decoration of this game.But then we research the marine issue and we think it is really a problem need to be solved urgently. So we decided to make a meaningful game aiming to raise people’s awareness to protect the sea environment. We have researched some references about sound so we want to make a full use of them. We keep the idea of sea waves to make it align with sound and be more interactive. My definition of interaction is both sides can receive, consider and give feedback.And this interaction should be more times not just once. I think the fish eating, the sea waves can highly align with my definition of interaction. The unique of our project is we timing by using the rising oil, which is really good for people to know the harm of oil spills. People pollute the sea and finally it will give back to people. There will be no fishes any more and no blue sea. I have interview a person called Luke who works in CASVI(The Social Value Investment Alliance). He thinks digital innovation is a crucial enabler to achieving the sustainable goal. Our project is to make people strengthen their awareness of environment pollution.
