1. Make Your Rainbow
Project Statement of Purpose:
For this project, I was inspired by one of my pass artwork using multiple acrylic boards that combines elements in side an artwork to ONE artwork. And I thought that this is some sort of interaction because it let the user to “create” their own artwork. I proposed 2 set of interaction techniques. I was struggling with how to “detect” the user, and I researched about Kinect, it could detect and print user’s body and print it through projection. The second interaction idea is using ultrasound sensor, and each sensor is connected to one color and one acrylic board, with detecting user’s hand or distance, the led light will turn on, and the user can decide its own lighting pattern that will eventually be projecting onto the acrylic board.
2. Throw Your Worries Into the Air
Project Statement of Purpose:
The interaction I was thinking for this piece is a bit complex.
I was inspired by a recently popular app called Tape, which users could set up a question box, and other people could ask questions or message without telling the box owner who he/she is. But some people use this function in country, which is setting up an “answer box”, and people could leave problems or issues they are facing, and the box owner can reply and help those people. So I was thinking if I could make an actual artifact that represents this app but in a more private way.
When users come, they first need to identify their role——Asking for help, helper, or both. If you decide to be a helper, you simply grab a question from the “sky” (the box), but you cannot open it (protect privacy). Each ball, will be in different color, and you pick the one that you like the most. Each ball will have a sentence that introduce its worry, so you can choose the one that you think you can answer. After you decide, you can open the box and start reading the detail, you then can write to help. If you want to ask for help, you can choose an empty question ball, and write down your worries and one sentence introduction. And throw that ball to the sky “inside the box”. You can come back at any time to check if your ball has any reply, and you can add on to your questions any time you want. Once that ball is chosen, it is yours forever.
3. Light Me Up
Project Statement of Purpose:
For this project, I want to make the user someone who is saving bad mood for other people. By pressing the sensor, the LED stripe on the bottom of the glass container will light up, and the color-less heart will also be lighted up. Simultaneously, the screen that shows how the heart feels will also changes from dark to bright. This project is most likely to be my final project, because it is simple and warm, and I hope everyone’s bad mood can fade away after interacting with this piece.
