I believe that fiction itself, as a form of writing, can not be as real as video or pictures. Even, most of the time, when we learned fiction in high school, teacher would told us that the thing written in the fiction are imaginary. However, I think I can have some of my comment. For me, just like the movie shot in Iraq, it is true in the way the things the movie convey is true but not the visional true. So, the fiction is the same way. Like the fiction written by Lu Xun. All the story never happened in the history, but the situation in China and people’s emotion and feeling are true. So, in conclusion, the fiction inform truth in the way of telling the story which could be happened in real life and convey some emotion rather than telling something totally true.
When talking about media, my answer is — it depends. If it is a joke story platform, nobody cares if the jokes is true or not. The only thing that we care is whether it could make the readers laugh. However, when it comes to some official media which have big influence, it is another case. People want to know truth from the official media, it is significant for the official media to tell the truth in order to maintain the government or the company’s credit. They could hide the truth but they can’t lie to the mass.
