Challenge Week 1: Problem/Definition Research

Identifying Unproblematic Problems

Non Problem #1: Inner part of the dishwashing gloves wet

We wear dish gloves to avoid contact with water or dishwashing detergent. However, when water accidentally get inside the gloves, it will take forever to dry unless you flip it inside out; which then you have to flip it back before you use it next time. I find this really inconvenient.

Non Problem #2: Long nails vs. toilet flush Button

Some toilets come with handle at the side for flushing, but others like the one I have in the dorm have the flush button at the top, where we have to press downward. The top flush button becomes a problem for people with long nails. Every time we flush, we have to press the button with one finger curled, and sometimes, one of the two buttons(high/low) gets stuck because we press both of them down at the same time. It is impossible to just press on one button when we use the curled finger method.

Non Problem #3: To see the back side of our ears

Some earrings I own have to be worn by poking them through the back of our piercing, which is within our blind spot. When I want to wear them, I have to ask for someone’s help or have a hard time alone, trying to peak at the piercing by flipping my ear as much as I can in front of a mirror. If I am lucky enough, I successfully wear the earrings within a minute or two; if not, I can struggle up to 15 minutes, which is problematic if I am in a rush.

Favorite Unnecessary Invention: The Smoke Deflector, by Matty Benedetto

My favorite unnecessary invention is the smoke deflector by Matty Benedetto. It can be magnetically attached to the ceiling, and it avoids fire alarm by blowing the smoke awake from the detector. I will love to have this item in my dorm, so then we don’t have to open the window or cover the smoke detector with a bowl while we deep fry things.
