Sound Visualization

Sam Chen – “Slow Dancing in the Dark” by Joji

In my design, I attempted to create a piece that showed an almost spinning effect that I felt the music conveyed. I used the letters to arrange the circles into a spiral to try to generate motion. The individual rings were meant to link together to further create a sense of motion. The individual letters that have also been placed together to make an object that has direction.

I feel that my design reflects Gestalt principles through proximity and similarity.

During the mid-critique, I used gray-scale and the letters I selected were not able to be seen clearly. I changed my design by making it so that each individual letter used could be visibly seen and made it so it would be in black and white. If I had more time, I would try to attempt to create a shadow with different fonts and sizing. I would also have liked to interlock the two design elements together.
