The article describes prosthetics and the changing technology that continues to improve prosthetics. Reading this piece further deepens my impression of UI/UX. In previous IMB courses, I learned that to design a product, you must have empathy and design products in the perspective of the consumer. As described in the article, those who use assistive technology operate different than those who don’t need any assistance. Additionally, people who use prosthetics are not the same; each person has a different disability and uses different products.
A technology that was developed to help but ultimately hindered its intended audience would be social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Social media was intended to bring people together online and share information. However, it resulted in many mental health issues due to cyberbullying and the idea that one needs to create a “perfect” appearance online.
