Memory Soundscape Blog Post

The memory I chose for the assignment was when my friends and I gathered at a nearby park after an event for the graduating high school seniors. I wanted to convey the feelings at the moment. The overall feeling at the moment was sadness because we did not want to leave each other as we parted ways for college. However, there was also a sense of happiness and hope since we were about to graduate and move towards our futures.

I used the metal hangers in my closet primarily because if you were to move them they made a chiming noise that I wanted to represent the very brief happiness. I also used a lighter as a background sound to create static. When recording the audio, the input was too loud and the microphone picked up a lot of background noise in the beginning. During the editing process, it was difficult to learn each of the various functions. Due to this, I struggled with executing how I imagined the memory to sound like.

If I had more time, I would have liked to deepen the echo sound to make it sound like you’re in a chamber. I would have also liked to make it more cohesive. I received feedback on it that it seemed disconnected; the volume levels were inconsistent. When listening to the project as I was editing, I used both my laptop speakers and headphones. It sounded completely different on the software of the speaker system.
