Visual Metaphor Proposal

1.  Project Title: Sa”Me”

Sa”Me”

1.
The world is a big dye vat
We are all meant to be colored by it.
When I look around I see colors all around me.
Blue Brothers to my left,
Red Sisters to my right.
2.
I didn’t know that I was born in unicolor.
I only remember as I gazed with wonder, all I could see was yellow.
My whole life until that point was yellow,
it was a safe and warm feeling yet I yearned for something more.

Have you ever imagined how dazzling colors of the sky can be, as sunrise replaces the moon?

Those are the questions I asked myself,
I knew there was a bigger world out there.
Much more than just yellow.

And finally I was able to roll into a new world.

All the shine of colors almost blinded me.
I was enthralled by it. It was beautiful, red,blue,green, purple. I was immersed in all of these colors.

When i got back I looked around this familiar place,
only to find myself surrounded by others’ stares. That’s when I realized that I would never be one of them again. I was too different..

I paced back and forth, with one lingering question on my mind: who am I now?

Back and forth is how I felt, one day I was yellow, the next I was blue. I never could find my true balance. Yet one day it clicked, I didnt need to be one color, I didn’t need to be like the rest. I can just be me.

Because Same cant’ be spelled without “me”

III.  Concept | Storyline:

1). Who are you going to interview? Or What is the piece (article, poem, story) for the narrative voice-over?  

2). What’s the story about?  

It’s a story about not being able to fit in. 

 3). Which part of the story are you going to focus on? 

1. We are going to focus on an identity crisis, for example when Chinese American is in America they don’t feel American enough but when they go to China they do not feel Chinese enough. So where do they belong? 
2. First, we will have a Chinese-American female dress up as very American and have her stand in the middle of Americans, there even though she is dressed like an American she does not fit in with them. Next, we will cut to her in the middle of Chinese people, even though she is Asian and Chinese, the way she dresses is not “Asian” enough so she does not fit in either. 

   4). What kind of style/aesthetics are you going to pursue?

1. The aesthetics we are pursuing will be first having something stand out and look out of place. For example, a different colored ping-pong ball in the middle of “normal” colored ping-pong balls.

Execution Plan: 

1). What equipment are you going to use when shooting the movie? (cell phone, DSLR camera, sound recorder, stabilizer..)

DSLR Camera, SOund record, stabilizer

 2). Which locations will it be shot at? When is it? Day time/night/unknown? Why?

Both day and night, we will shoot in a room that is filled with light to really emphasize the differences that people feel during an identity crisis. 

  3). What are some challenges you might encounter and how will you prepare?

  Storyboard Draft:

Start off with a board filled with paint different colors (tops hot)	Drop a yellow ball on top of the yellow paint. (Signals being born as Asian)	Roll the yellow ball onto different colors Red and Blue  (Signify being immigrated to American and taking in American culture)	Place the now-colored ball back into the yellow paint. Now it will stand out	Then cut to a board that is filled with balls of different colors. Some are mixed colors and some are filled with color. Have them bounce around and pop around
Start with baby pictures, cut to adolescent pictures. Still Life  Add filters	Introduce the actress and have her stare into the camera.	Have the actress do make-up and dress up like an American. This shows that she’s been influenced by American culture	Have the actress stand in a room with Westerners, even though she dressed like them they are different skin colors. Then cut to her in the middle of Chinese people, they are the same skin color but dressed differently.	Have different clips of them having fun.
