Sound Visualization Blog

Hey guys! For my sound visualization poster I created a poster based off of the song by Baby Keem and Don Toliver titled Cocoa.

From the image above it might see overbearing at first but let me explain. From the top to the bottom this piece reflects the artists different vocals at the bottom and the beat which is reflected in terms of the stars and the fire works. To start off the fire works represents the different pops in every four count of the song. Each large beat drop to me sounds like a firework that is going off thus there are fire works. The fire works were created with each of the artists names as well as the name of the album “The Melodic Blue”. I distorted the image using the pen too to create a fireworks outline and filled it in with text. The stars on the right were created using the star shape tool and were filled in with L’s to make them look like stars. The stars are the supporting 3 counts that lead up to the fire works. So essentially they are the the supporting piano notes that go on in the background.

In terms of the bridge on the bottom, viewers can see that one of the parts of the bridge is distorted this is because the singer in the first part of the song has a very harsh tone. It is almost as if its going to strain is vocal chords if he keeps going. The start of the song is like this up until the featuring artist Don Toliver comes in. And just like it is shown in the bridge Don’s voice is much smoother and the song becomes more of a calm melody which is why he bridge evens out in the end.

Here is the first draft of the sound visualization board that I made. As you can see the bridge here is still smooth and the O’s that are shooting the fireworks are also not very modified. The cocoa which is the song title is too obvious and does not fit the project at all. The bridge is still smooth because I had not listened to the song enough to realize that change in tone and vocal range within the artists. You can easily say that I focused more on the beat within the first couple of listens and once the beat started to mold into my brain I started to pay more attention to the artists voice and tone. Because of this I was able to change the bottom part of the bridge into a more distorted version as well as change the middle to the phrase “run wild” which is what I feel like the song was doing. It was more a bunch of wild beats that fit perfectly with both of the artists vocals and skillsets.
