When reading this article the one thing I realized is just how important photography is as a form of media. In my opinion it cannot be replaced because it is so different compared to other forms of media. This is because as the author said it captures a certain point in time, and that picture can not be altered or changed unless it is edit with digital photography. However, the photo that is taken while it may not have many words can speak loudly to many of its viewers. It is different from other forms of media such as a text or a book because it does not need words to convey its meaning. Photography is also subjective because different people can determine what the photographer can convey. However, in terms of an article or a text most of the time the author is already fixed onto one opinion and many readers can see the side that the author is taking. Photography is also different from the likes of virtual reality because virtual reality is an experience that is out of our own world. The only way to capture your experiences in that world is through the photographs that are taken with your brain. However photography is the captured memories within our own world. Each and every photograph no matter the importance is now a piece of history, something to look back on when you are older. In virtual reality you cannot do that because you are simply experiencing a reality that is not real it is virtual therefore you cannot capture these experiences with a camera. Photography is also different from videos because videos do not capture a single moment in time, the most of the time capture a span of events that happen. However, videos can be less impactful than pictures because sometimes they divert from the main point. Since there are so many moving part a viewer and easily get distracted and divert from the director’s main point. However a photographer only captures a single moment in time and they can even blur the background to just focus onto a single thing. This means that the viewer and understand what the photographer is trying to capture.
For example the photo above shows a black boy and white girl dancing but the photographer purposely puts the white girl in the sun and the black boy in the shadows meaning that he is less significant.
