Attempt at Identity

Hey guys! Thank you for checking out my photo diptych assignment. The theme that I was going for in my posts was Love and Identity. These days many teens are sort of lost on who they are. Either they are defined by the people who they hang out with or what they study at school many young adults do not have the time to truly develop and find out who they are. Because of this they sort of develop two sides of identity. One that is filled with happiness of life when they are with the people that they love and the other side is what they feel when they do not have those people. What I am trying to say is basically many people have their entire identities shaped by those around them and once those people are gone they are sort of lifeless and do not know how to act with themselves.

This was the original picture that I used from my contact sheet. As you can see the Bear in the picture is named Ryan so in a sense this project was also a story of me searching for my identity. But from this picture you cannot really see a struggle or a battle to find oneself which is why I felt that it needed a little bit of photoshopping in order to truly convey the message that I wanted it to convey.

This was my finished product, as you can see between the split of night and day is the split between identities. One that is happy and bright and the other that is darker and in the night. I really tried to focus on the eyes in this picture too as the left side has an apple in the eye which refers to the phrase “apple of my eye” meaning that the left side of this bear has something that caught its eye, it feels more grounded and has attached his identity onto something. While the right side of the bear has nothing to look forward to and nothing to attach himself to which shows the darker side of their identity.
