- My definition of interaction: A cyclic process, which is usually presented through the form of conversation, allows two parties to input, process and output information in a relatively equal position. The features of interaction include numerical representation, modularity, automation, variability, transcoding, etc.
- An interactive art project aligns with my definition:
One project which is in line with my definition is called Tiny Movies–Between perception and cognition.
-Reason: The project presents an interchangeable view of figures and shadows. Through Javascript-built installations, it converts our perception, namely our real-life figures, into our cognition.
-What triggered my understanding and definition of interaction: There are two parties (people and desktop installation) involved in this project. Besides, the conversion from figures to shadows indicates that input, process and output are included.
-Description of the type of experience: automation, modularity, transcoding, variability
- An interactive art project doesn’t align with my defintion:
One project which is NOT in accord with my definition is called Eternal Blue – Invisible digital dimensions of reality.
-Reason: The project visualizes malicious packets of a cyberattack in 2019. Although the installation technically input the intercepted package, went through certain process and output the coloured pixel, it cannot be considered as interaction because the lack of cyclic process.
-What triggered my understanding and definition of interaction: Speak of interaction, the element of two parties is needed. However, there’s only a single installation in this project, which means it doesn’t align with my definition.
-Description of the type of experience: numerical representation, transcoding, modularity.
