Memory Soundscape – Pick Your Memory

The memory I would like to pick is “home sweet home”. For me, the tiny happiness of life is no more than a peaceful and relieved place to return after a long day of work and exhaustion. And that place is called home. I can’t help thinking about the toughest time in my life (so far), namely the senior year of high school, when I have to work really hard and late to prepare for the college entrance examination. At that time, a hot dinner, a comfortable hot air-conditioner, and a warm welcome from my family are always my consolation. Thus, I would like to use sound to recreate that period of time and also in memory of my tiring but rewarding high school time.

I’m planning to divide my memory soundscape into two parts:

Part One

Scene: On my way home from school; cold winter night

Mood: exhausted, worried, frustrated

Elements: the recess bell; noisy and messy sounds of vehicles; a sigh of a person; getting on/off a bus; hurried footsteps

Part Two

Scene: home

Mood: (demonstrate a transition) from tense to relaxed

Elements: doorbell ringing; someone opening the door; the sound of turning on the air-conditioner; lying flat on the sofa; mom cooking; cat meowing…
