Rudraksha Bhukhanwala, “Ova” by Hasan Ozsut.
The movie where my selected song comes from, is a Turkish film called “Miracle in Cell No. 7”. The film revolves around a mentally single father who was wrongfully committed of a crime and is serving a sentence in prison, away from his daughter. The theme of boundedness is very clear in the film. This particular song, however, is very calming and soothing to the ear, almost freeing. Although, it is very repetitive, so the listeners feel trapped with the rhythm of the song. Therefore, the idea I had for my piece revolved around the idea of bounded freedom.
Freedom is represented by curved and circular objects, like the butterflies, composed by multiple “u”s and circles composed of many “o’s”. Whereas boundedness is represented by straight and symmetrical objects, like bars made of “I”s and the stem of a flower created using “o”s. The bars additionally act as the border and traps the circular objects from exiting the constraints of the paper. The entire piece is a conversation between these two opposing forms of objects.
