Diptych Concept Assignment

I’ve been drawing leafless trees since I was a kid; it was all I could draw. Initially it was simply because I thought the intricacies of the branches were so detailed and aesthetic. Later I realized the deeper meaning behind these drawings. Not only do I believe that the “leaves hide the beauty of the branches”, but I believe that leafless trees are so vulnerable during winter, and can be deemed as in a state of temporary death, until spring comes around. In my Diptych project, I wish to contradict death and birth by showing the resemblance of roots below the leafless tree. For the photograph resembling roots, I wish to visit a lively apartment building and take a picture from the ground looking up at the lives of the residents and especially capturing the vertical pillars that build the floor. I would use photoshop to distort the higher floor to seem wider to resemble the motion of the widening of a tree’s roots.
