After consideration, I decided to do the first proposal- Mind Reader as my final project
The project is adapted from a Chinese street magic performance called:”I know your last name even if you’ve never told me.” Basically the magic acted like this: the magician give the audience some cards, on each of them is several last names, then the audience picked the cards that their last name appeared and the magician could kind of calculate the conclusion. So my project is to convert the whole process into a automatic and digital one, the computer, together with the circuit will be the magician. The problem I’m going to solve is try to make all the interaction between two human changed into that between human and machine, which is a big challenge.
So what I’m going to do is to use Arduino and motors to make a device that can switch the cards shown to the audience. Maybe i will do it by using some kind of card dealer used in a casino and make I device to swipe the card out of that. I’ll also make a helmet with sensors-which will probably be a three-axis acceleration sensor in it so that the audience could nod or shake their head to judge whether the number they thought was on the cardboard shown, meanwhile, processing is used to show the instructions and the final result. For this part, I may make a simple image which shows a magician and make it act like an NPC which will kind of talk with the audience. It will give instructions while making reply every time the audience made a feedback, also it will show the final result.
So the difference I am making is mainly about making the interaction between two human into that between machine and human, so I will try to apply as more detail as possible to make the whole process interesting and appealing. The whole ‘plot’ is from the origin performance, and my work is about making a change in one side of interaction. The project doesn’t have a certain aim, it is just designed to make apply some interaction experience.
