Group Project: Research
How You Define Interaction?
My definition for Interaction: Interaction is the process of exchanging information and putting the exchanged information into practice after analyzing between at least two individuals(involving human, computer or other things that have such kind of abilities), and for the individual(s) which can think independently his or her action can only be restricted by basic rules of the interaction.
Interactive art project 1 (aligned): Zach Lieberman<Eye Writer>
The project is about a device which can help a handicapped person paint graffitis through movement of eyesight. When the painter’s eyesight moved, then the ‘pen’ on the screen would move to create the painting, throughout the process, the device will always record the man’s eyesight movement, analyze it using the program, and making response by changing the graph on the screen. the painter also view the graph on the screen, thinking what to do next and move his eyesight to control. Also, for the man, he can do whatever he want to do, as long as he follows the rule of drawing with eyesight, the process aligned the definition.
This project taught me about the basic elements of interacting, the video together with <The art of interactive design>, Crawford, let me know what interacting should be like.
Interactive art project 2 (unaligned): 现代语境之下的数字化“高级烟火气”以及城市生命力 by 丝路视觉 I used a Chinese project since it did enlighten me, and I can’t find a more suitable one. I’ll try my best to explain it in English.
The project aims to show people the development of city PingYang. It was called a interactive exhibition, but the interactive part of it is different from my definition of interaction. One of which is like the following print screen.
The presenter pressed button and some images were showed, it looks like interaction, but for the presenter who is able to think independently, she can’t do the things to actually interact with the computer, she is more like a trigger not an ‘interactor’ The basic rules of the project is too strict which totally restricted the attendee’s action, so it’s not a true interaction.
The project, together with the Article <Make interactive art: set a stage, Then shut up and listen> by Tom Igoe help me form a new insight about Interaction, which is the presence of less restriction, it make interaction truly interaction, not something that is completely guided by the author which more resembles a roller caster.
That’s my humble opinion on Interaction.
