Final Project: Proposal Essay
Red Light, Green Light Race
Statement of Purpose
My project is based on a universally-famous street game, red light, green light. I choose this theme because when I was a child, I played it with my friends almost every day. However, in recent years, traditional street games are being wiped out from young children’s lives because of the prevalence of mobile phone games, and the pandemic has made it even worse. I want to bring street games back to public attention with this project.
Project Proposal Plan
According to research, street games can efficiently strengthen children’s bodies and prevent them from physical and mental health problems, such as depression and obesity. (Rauber, 340) This project is aimed to propagate the benefits of street games by providing an engaging game experience. I need to prepare a clear visual platform on the computer by using Processing, make a physical device with accurate sensors and send values to Processing by using Arduino IDE, and use relevant technology to decorate the device I make, to make it inviting at the first sight and let the audience think of their childhood. The basic physical structure and coding should be finished by Dec.3, and further fabrication and decoration should be finished by Dec.8. After user testing, the revising should be finished by Dec.12.
Context and Significance
My prepatory research and analysis make me think more about physical engagement of my project. I learn to include more physical engagement from City Disco and the interactive version of Starry Night, and I learn to make audience more engaged by adding competitive elements from Kahoot!. The significance of my project is that it calls on people to pay more attention to physical games to strengthen their bodies, instead of having their eyes fixed to screens for entertainment. In the era which everything seems to be done with computer, I want to make something that can exercise somewhere else of our body instead of fingers and eyes. After this project, I would like to link more street games to computer, and let more people feel the charm of street games.
