Creative Coding Lab: Project B Proposal
Project Description
Focusing on information that I would like to convey to people in the future, I’d like to use disc as a media, which used to be very prevalent but is now almost abandoned. Though most people don’t buy physical albums to play at home, they still admit that beautiful albums are worth collecting, and this is what I think makes discs different from other out-fashioned data storage like tapes and floppy disks.
The project includes three main functions: image capture, sound recording and sound playing. The user should be able to take a picture through their cameras, customize the cover of the disc and record a sound clip that would be attached to the disc. Then, an url can be generated. Another person can have access to the disc and sound clip via this link. There might be a rotation animation for the disc and make it play as if it was a real one being played in the player.
Though albums made through this website is not as formal as the albums we can buy from records shops, they feature convenience and accessibility. It also demonstrates a sence of nostalgia, making us call back to the 2000s, when CD still dominates the market and people gather together to watch a movie or listen to some songs using a CD player. Perhaps for people from decades later, using hardware to store data outside a device might be very ridiculous, and this website sends a message from an era when this media is being eliminated, but still is well remembered.
