Recitation 4: Actuators and Mechanisms

(I’m sorry that I was too busy handcrafting and my hands got too sticky so I didn’t take more photos)

Additional Question 1:

I think this installation is creative and interesting, for it combines dog and robot with the function of pollution detector. It is dog’s nature to bark at danger, so it’s a great idea to make the robot dog bark at pollutant. My installation is also about dogs, but mine can’t work as a detector. The artist selected motors to make the robot dog move quickly and look like a robot.

Question 2: What kind of mechanism would you be interested in building for your midterm project? Explain your idea using a sketch (conceptual or technical) with a list of materials that you plan to use. Include details about the ways that you expect the user to embrace in a physical interaction with your project. In particular, explain how would your motor (or motors) with a mechanism will be different than using an animation on a digital screen.

I’d like to use servomotors for my midterm project, for it requires the arm of the model to turn forward and backward. The pgysical structure will make the installation more interactive because it will be more “real”.
