notes from reading:
- photography developed, from a reliable trace of appearance to an initial sketch that could be repainted, as they can be restricted into pixels by computer
technology has changed the format of photographs, which, I believe, enables photos to convey more information and meanings through the editing process. But I also believe that the original photos without high tech can also contain a lot of information with well-designed strategies behind them. Technology is a way to realize human creativity in photos.
- “post-photographic age” – the veracity of the photos was being utilized more frequently by those in power(the veracity and the power)
As the ability to edit and distribute photos are uneven between people who have power and ordinary people, and the effect of visual work can be so huge, the veracity/non-veracity of the photo will be bonded with power. And there are always tales of “the invisible side” behind those famous news photos. This reminds me of the works of Thomas Demand, who built paper models of famous political/historical events and shoot photos of them. He reconstructs the powers underlying each scene in his own way, which is very interesting.
- the digital platform offers new narrative possibilities – melding pictures with other media, allowing readers to explore through images (picture suggests ideas)
