- How do aliens in the story language and communication style different from the human language (oral, pictographic, phonetic, etc.)?
The whole makeup of alien language is different from that of human language. As conducting in the experimentation and learning process, there are not many distinctions on how each “flutter” invokes meaning as it was said to have sounded very similar to every other flutter. The oral pronunciation of human language has pauses, syllables, tones, and fluctuations. In terms of writing, the aliens have a more distorted form of writing. Their writing consists of the heptagon logogram and were modified and doing by other words, to describe it simply would be symmetrical strokes in the pattern of a circle.
- How does the physical structure of our body inform the way we communicate? How about the aliens?
Humans have a front, back, left and right side to our bodies. When communicating with someone else or reading/ writing, we are generally facing a specific way. The sound of our voices moves from our mouths in a forward direction. Our vocal cords and throat act as a funnel of sound to project intended communication. Our writing is also read in a certain direction going from one point to another whether that be left to right or top to bottom. When investigating the physical structure of the aliens, it seems that the radial symmetry of their bodies make its so that they have the ability to read their written language from any direction. This is much different from our way of reading. The sounds they emit are comprehended as flutters rather than verbiage.
