Inspired by the TED speech “Tracking Our Online Trackers” in my EAP class. I decided to create a Diptych to show the possible danger that the Internet might pose to us under its colorful mask.
In the speech, the speaker Kovac mentioned that while the Internet opens the world to each of us, it also opens each of us to the world, which indicates that our identity, every single behavior, and every piece of information is actually being watched by the public. Therefore, while we enjoy our free search online, we should also be aware of the possible danger hidden behind it to make better use of it.
As for the image made with a camera, I want to photograph a person who is playing with a computer from the side and back. On the computer screen are all kinds of colorful web pages. The tone of the whole picture should be warm to bring a cheerful and light feeling to reflect the joy that the Internet brings to people as well as showing that it can show the world to everyone.
As for the Photoshop image, I would like to convert the view to that behind a computer monitor. The whole image should have a black and gray color palette. Through the computer monitor is a human face. I want to design his face as a puzzle. His face is made up of a patchwork of features that he left online. Everything is black and gray, and only his eyes are colored (because the colorful web pages are imaged in his eyes) Around his face is an intricate network of wires, and at the end of the wires (i.e. the edge of the screen), I want to place some black hands. As if through the wires, these hands would have complete control over the man, turning him into a puppet with strings trapped in his hands. To complete the image, I will take a frontal shot of the person’s face, cut some scraps of paper on which I wrote various search information, and shoot some woolen threads, and some hands. I need to reunite the face and the paper I cut in Photoshop to make them into a whole. And combine the wool, hands, etc. with them. Also, I need to use Photoshop to tone them to a harmonious gray and black tone.
The camera’s image can show the bright side of the Internet, while the Photoshop image can show the dark side of it. They are two perspectives of the same scene. Only from both of them, can we see the complete Internet.
