Mini Project 2 _  360° video (Individual/Group)

Assignment: Mini Project 2 _  360° video

Come up with an interesting idea for a 360-degree video by forming a group of four or five people. Why should the idea be shown in a 360-degree video? Is the idea optimized for a 360-degree video? Or is it just for the video? Figure out how you direct the viewer to look in different directions in the video(ex: controlling the sound or moving the characters). Make your folder including the title and all people’s name in your group and submit your project HERE. Post your documentation with short description on your blog by 2/19, Monday(11:59PM)

For our group project, we initially planned to divide the work among us: three people recording different videos and one person handling the editing. We intended to capture the immersive experience of a busy day or showcase the bustling city of Shanghai. However, we had to pivot our approach when it was clarified that individual footage and editing were discouraged.

Given this constraint, I decided to pursue a solo endeavor. I contemplated two ideas: filming the inside of a piano or attaching a 360 camera to my shoes and documenting my journey from the apartment to the playground. I proceeded to film both ideas, but my focus gravitated towards the shoe-mounted camera concept.

While I pursued my individual endeavor, my teammates and I remained dedicated to our group project, focusing on a collaborative 360-degree video. Transitioning from our initial video concept, we united our efforts, combining the footage captured by each person to create a holistic depiction of a typical Saturday.

Capturing the inside of the piano involved setting up the camera within the instrument, carefully positioning it to capture the intricate workings and sounds. However, the outcome did not meet my expectations. The footage lacked the excitement and engagement I had hoped for, and it fell short of delivering the immersive experience I envisioned.

On the other hand, attaching the 360 camera to my shoes required a different approach. I secured the camera to my footwear and embarked on my journey, ensuring that every step was captured from ground level, providing viewers with a unique perspective.

Ultimately, I was drawn to the latter concept, inspired by the adage “thinking in other people’s shoes.” I aimed to offer viewers a fresh perspective by literally bringing them to ground level, immersing them in the environment from a unique vantage point. Through this approach, I sought to align with the project’s goal of providing a novel and engaging experience using 360-degree video technology.
