- The Veldt- This story is about characters who are living in a technologically advanced household. This house does all the tasks by itself. The most impressive thing about it was the environment simulator that could simulate any thought. The house simulated Africa. They had a traumatic moment where a lion attack was simulated and this caused a lot of trauma. The device I would create is a glove that allows you to create objects or tools in this simulated world that they live in. I feel like the house is communicating to the humans but the humans cannot communicate effectively to the house themselves. The gloves are to be worn on both hands. They will have sensors that respond to the simulated world so for example if you were to pick up a virtual stone , the glove will react in such a way that you can feel the weight and texture of the stone. The glove will also have buttons that allow you to conjure up certain tools or weapons.
- The Ones who walk away from Omelas- This story Is describing the life in a city near the sea that is not so popular. It is called Omelas. The writer describes the character of the city to a meticulous point an how it relies on a single child for its survival. Omelas can be described as a place where people are free to do whatever they want. The device I would create would be one for the child to be able to respond to those that harm it. the child is always abused but never responds verbally. So every time the child is abused motion sensors will pick this up and retaliate by trapping the abuser using mechanical drones and make them switch places with the victim this way it will be a cycle and everyone will learn a lesson.
- The Plague- In this story a post apocalyptic scene is being painted where the world has been overtaken by a deadly virus that can only be destroyed using alcohol. The device I would make would be a breathing apparatus that emits alcohol in vapor form every time the hand goes over the mouth when coughing. This device will also monitor bacterial activity in the mouth that way when there is an excess it will automatically clean it. The reason for this device is to prevent the consumption and abuse of alcohol. It will also be cheap to manufacture so that everyone will have access to it.
