DJ Disguise
The purpose of this project is to visualize music so that it can be a heightened and unique way. A part of my interests in my life is DJ’ing and playing music for others. I am making an African theme mask that embodies the music that will be played and as a tribute to my culture. The mask will have LED’s attached to it and they will synchronize with the music that is being played in order to create a performance for the crowd.
I am planning to 3D print the African mask. I will import a design into the LulzBot software and make adjustments so that I can accommodate the LED lights. I am planning to use FastLED on Arduino and processing to create code that responds to the timing and amplitude of the music playing. I need to test this code on my computer first then I plan to make the it portable into the mask. I will use a battery pack to power the LED’s. I will make it a priority to figure out the code first then build the mask.
The purpose is to provide an experience for the audience. During my research a lot of the projects that were under “music visualization” were either art installations or performances. This can be classified as interaction in a way because it is communication to the audience. It is not just simply playing music but articulating and visualizing it in a specific way that it speaks to the audience through visual elements. I am hoping by using LED’s it will aid in visualizing. However I would like to elevate this experience by adding actions that the audience can do to trigger different processes.
