Title; Musical Visualization
Music has always been a part of my life and as a DJ, I love performing and sharing its energy. We all know music is a experience in itself and for my final project I am looking to elevate that experience. I intend on doing this by using other senses such as sight and touch to make the experience of listening to music more elevated.
Project 1
I am really inspired by the DJ’s who wear disguises.(Marshmellow, DeadMaus etc) These disguises are used to portray a sort of persona to give the DJ’s character. For my project I want to make a mask of my own that has inbuilt LED’s inside of it. The LED’s will sync with the music I am playing from my dj table. Using Processing and Arduino I will write code that syncs the music through the amplitude.
The twist on this is that I want to make the mask African themed. I am a proud Zimbabwean and I would like to show my culture and music through this project.
Project 2
My second project proposal is to create an interactive art installation. For this I want to take people back to my cultural history specifically rituals. I want the the art to be a beacon that chants different songs after being activated by a sensor. the music will be cultural and I will use LED’s that sync with music.
When it comes to the sensor I want to use something that can connect with ones emotions or feelings, this could be by sensing the heartbeat or their temperature. Most of the rituals done back in the day were for healing or good fortune.
Project 3
For my third proposal I would like to play a visual set inspired by CYMATICS; my goal for this project is to visualize music in different ways and for this I would like to use LED light strips that react to the music I am playing using Processing. I want to have a setup that is aesthetic and is suitable for the audience.
As always I would like to insert a cultural aspect and I will only play music from Africa. I think this will be a wonderful way to introduce people to music from my home and the visual aspects will make it more appealing.
