Response of The Uncertainty of Documentarism

  • What is the significance of the authenticity and representation of the truth in the media that you consume on a daily basis? What is the role of a live broadcast?

The process and style of news readers can get from different sites are so different. For instance, the way I get information on Weibo is to see what the bloggers I subscribed to post, and usually I only subscribe to people who share similar interests, who care about the same issues as me. It even feels like a community. So every time I log into Weibo, I can get abundant information that I truly feel connected with. But the price is, since that news and information are spread by non-professional people who didn’t receive journalism/news production training, the things that they write can be subjective and fragmented, and the sense of community often lead to collective unconsciousness. I can choose to believe the bloggers because I trust in their honesty, but the potential risk of getting tangled with information cocoons lurks in every piece of information I take as fact.

Live broadcast really pulls the content producers nearer to the consumers. In terms of its form, it gives the viewers the illusion of being treated with genuine video/audio information. But the way to present information during live broadcast can be manipulated not only by rhetoric strategy, but also technological tools such as “virtual Youtuber( YouTubers using facial motion capture technology and virtual figures to produce live stream content)”.
