Reading 3. New Media Art: Introduction
Prompts
New Media Art:
In the readings, the author defined new media art as some work in a combined form of technology, art, and media. Date back before the twentieth century, when technology such as computers emerged. It was how an artist used the new technology, such as computers, to manipulate and change the art form into the new style that goes with the era. They were amazingly able to create the art in this new form, which was then put into media, like television and the web. Then the new media art could be distributed widely among the users in this new way.
But for my understanding of the new media art, I thought the new media art was an alternative way to express art in a new technological style, such as digital art, where artists could draw or paint easily on their devices. Then it could be shared and distributed mainly around the world and could get more attention if it’s posted on social media.
Lastly, I think the concept of new media art has changed for the better way. I could see a lot of improvement in new media art. Probably, it’s due to the newly developed technology that helps us create a better visual of an art form in terms of it being on media. Compared to the first page, the author mentioned that art was being made very complicated, such as coding and creating an art piece one by one pixel. But in this present day, creating art media is more accessible due to the app many developers have released for users worldwide.
Art Historical Antecedents, Themes, Tendencies:
- Roy Lichtenstein – He is an American artist that was born and lived in New York. He became very famous for his artwork and led the new media art movement during that time. His outstanding artwork is that he painted and drew a comic cartoon parody which defined pop art. He also used to create it using a pixel method to create his artwork, which I think was very unique.
- John Klima – Another male artist was born in America and used technology to create his artwork. His work was to create the Earth simulation or model on techs like computer hardware and even a hand-build tech-. Which I think it was very complicated and superior to create work in such away.
