Project A. 05 Reflection (Deliverables) – Project Presentation & Reflection
Project Presentation & Reflection
Project Description (Presentation text)
Ken Saengkla, Ringu’s animated eyes: all eyes on the prey
Elevator Pitch : On the project, I was inspired by the scene of the staring eye of a ghost lady in The Ring’s Japanese ghost movie. But to make it accessible for all user, the scary uncomeatable atmosphere part of the staring eyes were being removed from the project. Instead, the eyes project was changed into something more accessible and simple to understand and get along with, yet impactful with a hidden meaning behind it.
Abstract : Again, in this project, I was inspired by the staring scene in a ghost movie. But to make it more accessible for everyone to enjoy without any scary atmosphere interrupting your moment, those eyes were made cartoon-like. Due to that, you could see many eyes floating and moving horizontally from left to right limitless, but what’s interesting about those eyes is that they are all looking or staring at one point, which is your mouse or, in the project, a food. It hides the meanings of many eyes that could be indicated or interpreted as many hungry creatures are all looking and wanting desperately to have that one food. But to create more impact on the project, the giant eyes come alive as the biggest visual, in the middle of the screen with the most attention grappling while it’s blinking the eye. The audience could be enjoying playing around with those eyes’ direction of where exactly you want them to look, and no matter how far those eyes go or the big eye is blinking, they will always follow your food and would never leave their sight out of it!
Reflection
1.) Design and composition – Since the eye of the ghost inspired me, it was too scary and threatening, so I decided to change it into a cartoon-like vision. The composition and design were very simple, but the interaction, the meaning, and the position placed of the eyes were impactful with the biggest eye behind in the background, at least in my opinion.
2.) Process: Technical – At first, I used a simple function of coding with draw and setup only. Later on, I redid it and changed the whole process into a class function, which was difficult at some point to do. But overall, I surely did the global command at first, with a specific command of the duration and speed of the eyes moving and blinking. The design part was pretty easy and simple, with just an ellipse and line. Then after that, I figured out with the interaction of an eye follow of the mouse.
3.) Reflection and Future development – Unfortunately, I couldn’t follow my plan and keep up the work of what I had in my project proposal, mainly because I struggled with bringing an uncomfortable scaring atmosphere to the users since I find it very hard to do that. However, my project was changed entirely into a new concept, yet still inspired by the same object as before. However, I think it came out pretty well. I also struggled to use the class function throughout the time because I remembered only using this sort of coding once or twice. However, I hope to provide my project with better details and interaction with more fabulous visual design in the future. All the feedbacks I got from the fellows were very straightforward and helpful, although it’s actually what I already have in mind and what I had already noticed as my missing elements in the project. The feedbacks were still great, and I appreciate all of the time they gave me for my project. I definitely will try to improve myself and get better the next time.
