A report about the group project in 9.24

The title of our group project is Goggle. We took inspiration from Omleas. In Omleas, people put all of their emotions onto one person. For our artifact, we wanted to see what would happen if that changed and people were able to see other people’s emotions. In my point of view, our project Goggle is a good example of interaction.

First, let me introduce how the Goggle interact. In my point of view, interaction is a new form that provides a double-ways communication, which means both performancers and audiences can output their opinions through the interactive project. Therefore, let us look at the project. We use the actors’ lines and body movements to show the audience that when we put on our goggles we can see everyone’s moods – we use colors to indicate different moods. In turn, the audience will make associations through our interpretation – what does this color represent? Does it make sense that the color red represents anger? and so on are all questions that prove that our project is able to create an interactive experience for the audience.

However, I believe that we still have some problems that can be improved. The first point is that we can express our moods more intuitively by drawing emoji than by using colors to indicate our moods, and we can be spared a lot of comprehension bias. The second point is that in terms of script writing, I think we can make enhancements. During the Q&A session at the end of the show, one of the students asked this question.” If you already know that everyone is in a mood, then why do you question them? “This question gave me new ideas. I was thinking that many times we subconsciously hide our emotions, especially the bad ones, and in order to show this phenomenon we could make some line adjustments. For example, when Henry asks me how are you feeling, I can answer that I’m fine, even though I’m angry, then at this time he can present his point of view to induce me to tell the reason why I’m angry.

Next I’d like to introduce another group’s project, one of the most intriguing to me in the whole show, it’s called Barbie AI. First of all, from the name, the word AI points out the connection between this work and modern technology. And since Barbie is another hot topic these days, I personally think that in the name their group’s work is interactive. During the performance, their work has a distinctive character. First of all pink can instantly bring to mind Barbie’s representative color. Then, during the conversation, the function of the piece is introduced in their script through dialog, which gives the audience a clear idea of what they are thinking. The beauty of it is that I think their work is slightly gendered, and while they explain at the end that Barbie is for everyone, it really only involves female applications in the show. And I don’t think this piece had much to do with the three articles we read. Overall, though, I thought this piece was still excellent.

During the process of doing the group work, we first discussed the theme and I came up with the idea of making a device that can detect emotions, and after we all thought it was feasible, we decided to make goggles at Shu’s suggestion. When it came time to make the artwork, we each cut a piece of cardboard the same size and painted it a different color. Then we started making the main part. Yiru and I were in charge of cutting the wires, Shu was in charge of most of the painting. henry was in charge of assisting Shu with color mixing, and Evelyn and Grace were in charge of coloring. Once we had completed the piece, we began to discuss how we could express the function of our work through body language, and Henry came up with the idea of being able to see colors to identify moods, which we subsequently enriched through discussion. Finally, after a few more rehearsals, we decided to add an introduction and a more detailed performance before we started to achieve a better effect.the Gogglethe process
