Pick Your Memory – The Shot
One of my most stand out memories when it comes to remembering the sounds of is one my first times getting a vaccine shot when I was. 8 years old. My parents drove us to the city to get my vaccine shot, which we parked inside a garage and took a short noisy walk to the building that had the doctor. The entrance led to a tall and echoing lobby, with a crowd of people at the end of it. We would line up for and got onto a crowded elevator. Once we got off the elevator, we were greeted by a long and silent hallway, in which I start to hear my slowly increasing heartbeat and our steps. Once we got to the doctor’s office, my heartbeat would increase, drowning out a conversation from my parents and the signing of papers. This continued as the doctor guided me into her room and laid me upon a bed in the room to prepare my shot. My heartbeat was at an all-time high as I closed my eyes while the syringe was being inserted into my arm, hearing it being injected while my heart rate was slowing down, until everything was quiet.
