Project Title:
NOWhere to Adventure
Prologue:
My partner Andy and I are still discussing about our projects’ idea and interactive design. Hetherto we have different idea and target for our design. Most of the idea are TBD.
Project Statement of Purpose:
I still remembered when I visited the IMA final show in 2021 fall and amazed at those fascinating design. I was a freshmen who graduated from high school, finished Gaokao and took three core courses and one CS intro course in the first semester, thinking that CS major might be the only path in my undergraduate study. the IMA final show sparked my interest in IMA and I wished that I could share the beauty of IMA in the IMA final show and inpired freshmen. This is my personal, but ultimate purpose, and my ultimate target audience will be the freshmen who don’t know about IMA.
For our project’s purpose, are going to combine physical mechanism with digital algorithm and body movement to achieve argmented reality game, targeted at all the crazy gamers who want to see the game moving out from the screen and do some body exercise simultaneously. The interface is grid like and grid could influence each other, just as Conway’s “the game of life” I mentioned in my proposal. Grids will have event that require user to do specific movement, the machine would receive signal of two tilted-combined tilt switch to analyze users’ stance and using processing to hint users the prediction of machine, more detail in my proposal on “reinforced multi-functional exercise”. Such idea aligns with Edmonds’ idea on “varying interactive”, because users’ previous input on grids, the current grid would respond differently.
Project Proposal Plan:
Andy and I have decided to build the physical machanism first, and we will base on the physical implement to expand the design. Here is the physical machenism drawed by me:
We will use about 1 week to build and test the physical model. We found good 3D model for 3D painting on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2995199 :
An LA told me that 3D painting may not good for precise gear. In the first week, we will first test the durability of 3d printing material, if it’s okay, we will try to build some 3d models and print them out.
During the second week, Andy and I will focus on coding to achieve the interaction between Arduino and Processing and also design user interface. Throughout the whole development, we will interview peers for good idea on how to build a good game.
