In Our Own Image

What does Ritchin mean with the "fluidity of the digital"? Give an example of digital imaging/digital photography that exemplifies this.

Digital mobility refers to the fact that people can change the electronic pixels in the image media through technical means, so as to modify the structure and outline of the image, and still imitate the appearance of traditional photography and other old media. At the same time, it also provides a new way of observation and thinking for the outside world. New software for manipulating images or other media was created. As a result, photography is no longer thought of merely as a technology and an accurate capture of reality, but as a fluid digital, a nascent medium for displaying and producing images that rely on technology rather than the real world. For example, when we use Adobe Photoshop we can distort the image, change the color, brightness, contrast, add, delete and so on to make the photo more subjective, to make it serve your own subjective impression.

Reflect on the extent to which photography is capable of capturing reality; and compare it to other media (technology) (e.g. text, video, virtual reality, books).

The picture is captured by freeze-frame the moment when the shutter is pressed (although the tiny length of time may change slightly due to the Settings, but we can understand it as a moment). One of the most important things that distinguishes a photograph from any other medium is that it records the world as it was at one point in time. Compared with text, the information in photos is more concrete, which may weaken the influence of imagination on media information extraction. At the same time, the time frame of the information carried by the text is not as strictly limited as the photo. Video can be regarded as an extension of photos in the time dimension, which means that video will carry the changes in the field of vision in a long period of time. At the same time, compared with words, it will leave less space for the imagination of the audience because it also has concrete factors such as sound, color, light and shade.
