We can tell the isolated one Annika, Annika tried everything she can to make her looks like the friends of that three girls. But finally lost herself because she changed her lot during the process of assimilating into that little group. These kinds of phenomenon is common to see in nowadays society, so I want to use this video to reflect the deep thinking behind these things.

Memory Soundscape

1.Concept

I chose the memory of  my Chinese instrument ensemble’s rehearsal .I aim to convey the actual sounds and the feelings of the whole process when we are having the rehearsal by using so many Chinese traditional instruments . I  want it sounds like both having the tension and relaxation in the period, because the music rehearsal is flexible, it sounds like a complete song but actually is doesn’t. There are playing part and also the pause part during the rehearsal ,and the beginning or the end of rehearsal I also would like to make it very clear and apparent, that can make the scene of that environment very actual and realistic.

2.Talk about the sounds you have used for the project and the reasons for the choice. Describe the recording techniques you have used and explain your choices. Did you encounter any problems? Tell us how you dealt with them.

I used thr bell rings ,the noticification rings of my phone, the sounds of the Chinese flute, Guzheng, which is another Chinese traditional instrment, the drum, and also the piano. Becasue these sounds are basic elements of Chinese instruments rehearsal, and I want all these sounds mixed up together to sound like a crouded environment in the auditorium . I recorded distinctive sound of something specific in short distance, recorded something far away, and also an entire acoustic environment. Because the rehearsal doen’t just need the sound from the instrument but also the talking and the echo of these various kinds of sounds.I couldn’t aviod the sounds of instruments listened like a period of melody which is not allowed  in this project. So I tried to record the single sound of different kinds of sound, so the mixing process is much harder and complicated.

3.Explain your editing process. Describe challenges you faced, and solutions you found or compromises you decided to make. What are the learnings you are taking away?

First I used the rings to begin which means the start of this Chinese ensmble rehearsal, and the following noticification sounds of my phone means that all the members of this ensemble have recieved the message of gathering at the auditorium .I used the echo effect to make it mixed with the background sound, and the other kinds of instruments added in the following sounds.I found it was so hard to make it sounds very harmony, becasue I used the single and simple recoding of these instuments, the mixture used to sounds very weird. So I tried to make each start and the end of single period’s volume down lower ,that can make different kinds of voice dosn’t conflicted with eachother ,the fading is quite useful.

4.Conclusion

How would you improve your project if you had more time?

I would make the left and right sides volume different and changable, tried to make the srounding feelings in this set of environment .

Reading and Film

1.Steyerl talks about how the “unbroken belief” of the documentary form is challenged. How are Steyerl’s ideas about truth and fiction represented and expressed in Abbas Kiarostami’s film? How does truth inform the fiction in Close up? How might fiction inform the truth?

As Steyerl argues in her perspectives, the unbroken belief means the truth of documentaries are challenged for the reason that images and shots have no longer conveyed the reality intends to convey the truth. The images still has the unpredictable factors and uncertainties, sometimes the representation is not accurate or real in the things of images. Those uncertainties are challenging the truth of documentaries, even the meaning behind these images has been destroyed. The truth may provide information for fiction in Steyerl’s article, because there is a truth behind the colored spots in CNN broadcasts, so we can see these spots and understand the context, or understand some abstract things because of the real context.

2. What is the significance of the authenticity and representation of the truth in the media that you consume on a daily basis? What is the role of a live broadcast?

The importance of authenticity and authenticity in daily media may have an impact on politics, public opinion, social life and other things, because these resources are available to ordinary audiences. In popular media, images, news, or current events are either considered to be true or not trusted, considering the existence of editing tools such as Photoshop, and the audience does not always understand the full context of things. This makes the mass media sensational, but also difficult to trust. The function of live broadcast is to show what actually happened at a specific time. I would think that the live broadcast is closer to the truth because it is recorded in real time, which means that the video has not been edited and censored. However, if we cannot distinguish the actual image, such as the CNN broadcast described by Steyerl, this may challenge the authenticity of the broadcast and change the content we rely on to make the broadcast more realistic.
