Fabrication Lab Policies

GENERAL POLICIES

  1. Respect and Responsibility: Show respect to others, the work space, and the equipment in the Lab.
  2. Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain a clean environment and put tools back to their original location.
  3. Equipment Usage: Certain equipment such as the Laser cutter, 3D printers, sewing machines and woodworking power tools are reserved for trained individuals. If you wish to be trained you can make an appointment on the fabrication lab website. 
  4. Report Damages: Notify the Lab Manager or Lab assistants if something is broken or damaged. 
  5. Seek Assistance: Do not hesitate to ask the fab lab manager or the fellows if you have any questions, we are here to help!

 

WOODSHOP POLICIES

  1. Supervised Access: The woodshop and its tools are to be used only under the supervision of the Lab Manager or Faculty member.
  2. Safety Training: Students must undergo safety training for each machine before utilizing any tools.
  3. Appropriate Attire: Always wear suitable clothing while in the woodshop. Open-toed shoes and loose-fitting garments are strictly prohibited.
  4. Hair and Eye Protection: Tie back long hair and consistently wear safety glasses when operating power tools. In case of loud tools, wear ear protection, and for tools producing dust, a mask is mandatory.
  5. Glove Usage: Avoid wearing gloves while using power tools. Gloves are strictly for material handling.
  6. Physical and Mental State: Refrain from using tools when fatigued or under the influence of any substances, including medications that cause drowsiness or hyperactivity.
  7. Tool Handling: Never leave a tool in motion or mid-cycle unattended. Ensure the machine is off and still before stepping away.
  8. Guard Adjustment: Do not adjust guards or measure materials while the machine is running. Wait until the machine has completely stopped.
  9. Tool Condition: Do not use damaged tools. Report any malfunctioning tools to the Lab Manager immediately.
  10. Post-Use Cleanup: After completing your work, tidy up your area and the tools used. This entails sweeping, returning handheld tools to their designated places, and resetting power tools to their original state.
  11. Materials and Hardware: Return any leftover materials or hardware to their proper locations. Dispose of excess materials appropriately and relocate your project components.
  12. Personal Materials: Inform the Lab Manager before using your personal materials to verify compatibility with available tools.
