0. Overview

Embroidery is a process whereby a sewing machine or embroidery machine is used to create patterns on textiles. It is used commercially in product branding, corporate advertising, and uniform adornment. It is also used in the fashion industry to decorate garments and apparel. Machine embroidery is used by hobbyists and crafters to decorate gifts, clothing, and home decor. 

Follow this tutorial and get familiar with the FUTURA XL-550 sewing and embroidery machine and understand its capabilities.

1. Prepare your file 

Step ONE:

Open the software Stitch Era Universal and create a new blank design document.

Step TWO:

Go to the artwork tab.

Step THREE:

Open your .SVG vector file.

Step FOUR:

Go to the Embroidery tab. Select your design and in the menu click “Art to Stitch (intelligent)”.

Step FIVE:

Select one of the three embroidery settings for your design.

Fill areas and borderlines: This option will fill-in your design and create a borderline all around it.

Fill area only: This option will only fill-in your design with stitches

Fill borderline only: This option will only trace the outline of your design without filling in the inside.

Step SIX:

Now you can preview the final result and view/hide the stitches and travel movements of the machine.futura6

Step SEVEN:

In the Body tab you can choose to modify the the embroidery pattern. You can visit this wikipage for more info about stitch patterns and fills.

Step EIGHT:

Export as embroidery file format .PES. Make sure you remember the file location on the computer.

Step NINE:

Open the Futura software  and import your .PES file you just exported. Make sure your design is scaled according to the hoop size you are going to use.

Now you can send the data to the embroidery machine. Each block represents one color of the stitches you are going to perform. For single color stitches you only need to send 1 block. For multi color embroidery please watch video in the section 4: Multi color embroidery design.
