Notes on Story of Your Life

Story of your life

Notes:

◎ Story of Hannah’s life is told by her mother, Louise. Life is like how she calls her every time.“Hannah” is a palindrome and life is loop-locked. So the past “be” Hannah, the present “be” Hannah, and the future “be” Hannah. Therefore, every time Louise calls Hannah, she reminds herself, that it was determined Hannah will die when she gave birth to her. Actually, that seems natural. It is something similar to our logical recognition and literally existing in Zen.

◎ But what if you can really feel it? Imagine that you feel the world governed by “nothingness”. There is no absolute cause or effect. Given logic doesn’t work when Lousiehas to say a word to stop the General Shang attacking heptapods and choosing peace. Instead, Louise in the past and Lousie in the future exist at the same time. They both struggle in the time vortex, trying to remember what the word is. Hence the solution is back to nothingness. Just admit causal metempsychosis, and embrace the future when embracing the past. Or you lose part of yourself, and never meet ultimate as we say in Zen. (In this science fiction short story by Ted Chiang, ultimate is peace on Earth and the idea “enso” represents. )

◎ As a linguist, Louise learns the alien language ahead of others. So she first experiences the suffering brought by changing the way of viewing the world. Based on the hypothesis “ Language determines how people think ”, Louis starts to open time after she knows the main rule of ring words. What she can feel is not only about what happened, but about what is going to happen, which have mutual influence on each other. The world changes in her mind, and so do people. Ian is her love, who leaves when he learns Louise gave birth to Hannah even if she knew Hannah would die for incurable disease at 25. He can’t stand this suffering, but Hannah can. She is ready for more like this from right now, from the love for one life and the world containing millions of lives.

◎ An irreversible change is happening because of the new-utilized symbols. A brand new world conception will open in front of us with the appearance of a different expression.

Once a time

September 21, 2022 by Qifan Tang Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, a scene appeared which seemed so far away. The top left is a wild beast ,like a dinosaur, farthest from the picture though still colossal. And the right one is a claw print, which also looks like hand bones. I want to show long time has passed by it.Then we see a curved trunk dividing the distant land  and the closer water. Here’s a fish shaking its tail to change its swimming direction. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Either add alt text or mark the image as decorative.

Ater date

September 19, 2022 by Qifan Tang Leave a Comment

Ater date refers to a  pure black date .The main performance object is the lady whose sitting position looks disturbing——because of her date’s inquiring eyes and endless comments. The  opposite postures can be a proof.

At the dining table, lady’s heart goes broken, like lovely flowers begin to wither and fall.It seems like people of opposite gender always can’t comprehend each other. The other world won’t be easily broken into, yet feeling hurt at the same time.

Though the movement of the flowers is graceful and curative, making the lady still looks glamorous. Why?Maybe it’s because we pretend to be fine in the face of others and hide the suffering .or Maybe we can heal ourselves even at hard times.

  1. Then what do you think of the dilemma we are facing? And what will you behave if that happens
