From the beginning I could perceive Philippe Starck to be eccentric, there was something about the way and body language in the interview video that made me use this word to describe him his personality resonates with his appearance that seems to usually be a black attire and minimalistic accessories which I think match with the image I believe he tries to portray which is to be an enigmatic persona.
Besides him as a person, his designs leave quite some room for discussion. I think that he has a forward-thinking approach to design it seems like he’s pushing the boundaries of what we categorize as “conventional”, some of the designs break the traditional norms and do not offer functionality but are more conceptual. Which leads me to talk about the Gun Lamp, I think this design follows a conceptual design, and I can understand how it can be a channel to put out a bold statement but a firearm can also come across as something inappropriate for several settings and might also indulge the idea that the artist is trying to glorify weapons.
Nevertheless, his creativity is undeniable, Starck shows his ability to think outside the box straight from taking a glance at his work. He comes up with original and captivating designs that could be a conversation pieces. I think his designs show a blend of artist expression, experiences, deep understanding of human needs and changes; which raises the idea that his designs are unconventional (maybe his just ahead of his times). He is not afraid to play around with unconventional forms, concepts and materials. The asymmetry, unexpected combinations in his design which as a viewer invites to rethink perceptions. One of my favorite pieces of him is the Axor Starck Faucet, eventhoug it can be considered as a merely a faucet the minimalist and elegant design with its sleek, cylindrical form and innovative technology provide both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality, offering users a luxurious experience, that I think almost everyone will like to have at their homes.
