For my memory, I want to record a trip to the hospital. Throughout my life, I’ve had a multitude of different health problems and have spent months going in and out of hospitals around the world. One specific memory that sticks out to me was when my lung collapsed in Beijing, and I was rushed to the hospital. I remember being carted around from room to room while the doctors were quickly running tests on me to figure out what was wrong. The beep of the x-ray machine, the squeak of the wheels on the hospital bed, and the steady flow of pure oxygen leaking from its tank are all sounds that are permanently ingrained into my mind. I remember the relief I felt when they finally gave me an oxygen tube into my nose and I could finally breathe again.
I think that composition-wise, I can start my soundscape outside of the hospital in the ambulance as it arrives at the hospital. I then can add sounds of exiting the ambulance, getting put onto a stretcher, and wheeled into the hospital. Inside, I can add the general atmosphere of the hospital, and then include the significant sounds of the x-ray and EKG. Finally, The soundscape can end with the sound of oxygen flowing from the artificial tank.
